How to Obtain a Philippine Student Visa

Studying abroad in the Philippines can be an exciting adventure, but be sure to give yourself plenty of time to complete the visa process. The process of obtaining a student visa for the Philippines---also known as a 9F visa---begins with the Philippine college or university. You must submit several required documents and be accepted by a Philippine university before you can submit your application to the Department of Foreign Affairs for a student visa. The Philippine authorities require a host of forms and documents.

Apply for admission at your school of choice in the Philippines as an international student. According to the Philippine Immigration authorities, the school will require five copies of a personal history statement with a photograph, a notarized copy of your or your parents' bank statements, a copy of your school records, a photocopy of your passport and a photocopy of your birth certificate. Mail these documents to your college or university based on their instructions.

Wait for your notification of acceptance. If you are accepted, your university will send you a Notice of Acceptance. They will also send a copy to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

    • 3

Wait for a formal invitation to apply from the local Philippine embassy or consulate in your country. Once the Department of Foreign Affairs receives the Notice of Acceptance mentioned in Step 2, they will endorse the document and send it for processing to the embassy or consulate in your country. The embassy or consulate will then notify you in writing that you should appear in person to submit your application.

Call the embassy or consulate at the number listed in their letter to make an appointment for your application interview.

Show up at the embassy or consulate at your designated appointment time. They will take your paperwork, ensure you have completed the application form correctly and process your visa. Some consulates may be able to process your visa the same day, but others may have to send you the visa through the mail. Ask the consulate or embassy staff about how long it will take to get your visa.
