Apply to study at an Australian school. Before you can apply for a student visa, you must be accepted as a full-time student at an Australian school or university. Part-time education is not acceptable and Australian immigration authorities will ask for proof of enrollment.
Meet financial requirements. To study in Australia, you must be able to afford your return airfare and tuition. You must also have enough money for living expenses---about $15,000---for every year you will be in Australia.
Meet health requirements. The Australian government will not allow persons with contagious diseases to enter Australia. Depending on your length of study, you may be asked to undergo a health exam. Whether or not you must be examined by a medical professional is at the discretion of immigration authorities, and you will not know if it's required until you submit your student visa application. If an examination is required, a list of acceptable doctors and clinics will be given to you by the Australian consulate.
Obtain health insurance. Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is health insurance for international student studying in Australia and is provided by the Australian government. OSHC can be arranged through your school and is approximately $300.
Be of good character. A background check will be conducted by Australian immigration authorities to ensure you have no criminal record or public complaints.
