The Center for Real Estate Entrepreneurship at George Mason University offers the Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MRED) degree, using construction management, public policy and finance as the foundations of the program. Located in Fairfax, VA, which is about 19 minutes from Arlington, core coursework centers on development fundamentals, real estate finance and project management. Students can then choose a finance, construction management or environment and sustainability emphasis to complete the program. Full time employment of at least two years is recommended for admittance to the program.

Virginia Commonwealth University, located in Richmond, VA and approximately two hours away from Arlington, offers a Master of Science degree in real estate valuation. Because the program fulfills the Appraisal Institute's MAI educational requirements, students who complete the program are sometimes placed in internships with members of the Appraisal Institute in the community. Coursework focuses on accounting, economics, financial management, real estate development, marketing and property investment law.
