Contact a professor or boss who is familiar with your experience, knowledge and work ethic. Find those who gave you support at some point during your academic or professional career. A professor or boss who knows you well is likely to write a detailed recommendation based on his observation of your work and attitude.
Talk to the professionals that you chose to complete your recommendation. Tell them what information you would like to have in your letter. Provide details about the graduate program that you are trying to enter and explain why you are a good candidate. If you do not see or converse with the person often, tell him about recent accomplishments that make you a strong candidate for the graduate program.
Obtain at least five recommendation letters. According to Indiana University, most graduate schools request one to three letters of recommendation. Have at least five available, read through them thoroughly and submit the best three with your application.
