* High school diploma or equivalent
* Minimum of two years of college coursework, preferably in counseling or psychology
* 160+ hours of supervised clinical training in a CADC-approved program
Experience
* 2,000 hours of documented work experience in alcohol or drug abuse counseling, with at least 1,000 of those hours being with clients who are dealing with mental health problems
Exams
* Pass the IC&RC CADC Level I exam
* Some states may require additional exams
Other requirements
* Be at least 21 years old
* Have a valid driver's license
* Be able to pass a background check
