How to Swim at Olive-Harvey College

Olive-Harvey College is the largest of the City Colleges of Chicago making it an appealing choice for students who wish to attend college in an urban center. If you don't want to gain the infamous "freshman 5" pounds, you'll want to get some regular exercise while attending Olive-Harvey. You must be enrolled and follow a specific procedure to make use of the college's indoor pool.

      Understand the structure of Olive-Harvey College athletics. As of 2011, the only varsity sports that the college provides are Men's Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball and Women's Volleyball. Therefore, swimmers who wish to compete at the collegiate level should look elsewhere for the opportunity to compete while at school. However, Olive-Harvey does have a pool that is available for student use.

      Enroll at Olive-Harvey College. To apply, you will need your official transcripts from your last educational institution, be it high school or another college. Depending on your situation, you may need to meet other requirements; for example, international students must also provide translations of their transcripts.

      Get your student ID card. This card will have a photo of you, as well as your name, and serve as your identification throughout your time at Olive-Harvey College. It is issued during your first week as a student and will allow you access to the pool as well as to other college resources, such as the library.

      Sign up at the pool. You will need your student ID card. However, you will also need to sign a permission/release form, which you can request at the front desk.

      Go to the open swim hours. The pool is open to students on Mondays and Wednesdays between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., as of February 2011.
