Eligibility for PhD Programme:
• Master’s Degree in relevant discipline with at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade from a recognized university.
• OR, Master’s Degree in relevant discipline with at least 50% marks or its equivalent grade from a recognized university/institution, if the candidate has qualified the UGC/CSIR JRF examination or University’s entrance test.
2. Apply for the PhD programme:
The application process for PhD programme at JNU is online. Candidates can apply through the JNU website. The application fee is Rs. 500 for General/OBC candidates and Rs. 250 for SC/ST/PWD candidates.
3. Appear for the entrance exam:
All candidates applying for PhD programme have to appear for an entrance exam. The entrance exam is conducted by JNU. The exam consists of two parts:
Part I: Written Test (100 marks)
Part II: Research Aptitude Test (50 marks)
The written test will cover the following topics:
• Research methodology
• Literature review
• Data collection and analysis
• Thesis writing
4. Get admission:
Candidates who qualify the entrance exam will be admitted to the PhD programme. The admission process is based on the candidate's performance in the entrance exam, academic record, and research proposal.
5. Complete the coursework:
PhD students at JNU are required to complete coursework in addition to their research. The coursework will cover the following topics:
• Research methodology
• Statistics
• Data analysis
• Thesis writing
6. Conduct research and write a thesis:
PhD students are required to conduct research and write a thesis. The thesis should be based on the student's research findings and should contribute to the existing knowledge in the field.
7. Defend the thesis:
After completing the thesis, students must defend it in front of a panel of experts. The panel will assess the thesis and the student's knowledge of the subject matter.
8. Get awarded the PhD degree:
Upon successful completion of all the requirements, students will be awarded the PhD degree by JNU.
