Submit a one-page letter of intent by the deadline. Provide basic information about the institution and principal investigator (PI) submitting the proposal. Include the project title along with a brief (200 words or fewer) synopsis of the research goal. List up to four keywords that reflect the disciplines involved in the project, such as biology and engineering.
Provide a one-page project summary, briefly describing the IGERT project. Mention its key educational features. Include a section on the project's intellectual merit under the heading "Intellectual Merit," as well as one on the project's broader impacts under the heading "Broader Impacts." Include the title of the project, the name of the PI and the academic institution at the top of the page.
Describe the project in greater detail. Using no more than 25 pages, give a detailed list of up to 20 faculty participants, the project's vision and goals, a description of the interdisciplinary aspects of the research project and statements on the role of students in the research, plans for the administration of the project and procedures for assessing project performance.
Give further details about the recruitment, mentoring and retention of IGERT trainees in the program in no more than 25 pages. Include information, such as how many trainees the program will support, how long each trainee will receive funding, what sort of funding the trainee will receive after the IGERT program, from which departments the trainees will graduate and how the program will attract underrepresented students.
