Contact schools with psychology doctoral programs that interest you, and find out the admission requirements. Ask about the best majors and minors for an undergraduate, the minimum grade point average required to get in and other courses to take that will increase your chances of getting into the program.
Take as many psychology classes during undergraduate school as you can. Major in psychology if possible.
Learn about the application process for a clinical psychology program. Find out what type of personal statement is required, along with the other application procedures, for the programs you identified in Step 1.
Participate in psychological research as soon as possible in your undergraduate career. This involves working with a graduate student or professor in the psychology department. Good clinical psychology doctoral programs require considerable research during graduate school. Obtain letters of recommendation from the professors or graduate students you work with.
Write an exceptional letter of intent when applying to a doctoral program. Promote yourself as a well-qualified candidate. Highlight your academic background, particularly in psychology, as well as your research experience, personal strengths and aspirations.
