Each state has federal dollars to train or re-train disabled workers for the workforce. This organization may have different names from state to state but the procedures are all similar in following the federal guidelines set forward for eligibility. Participants will work with a staff counselor to attain entry into the program, determine the proper educational plan and begin the process of enrollment and registration.
While disabled students are allowed to apply for any scholarship, certain state or individual scholarships are only available to those categorized as disabled or who have certain diseases or ailments, including those with mental or learning issues. Internet searches, publications and online resources will help those seeking this type of aid.
Some additional resources to the disabled student could possibly come from two federal programs. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a program providing assistance to the disabled with few or no resources. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) can be sought if the disabled student has prior employment.
