How to Print Out Black & White FAFSA Forms

If you plan to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) you have the option of printing a form off the Internet and sending it in by mail. The printable form contains areas of colored shading that should not pose a problem for the vast majority of black-and-white printers. If you have a color printer and prefer to print the forms out in black and white, you will have to change your printer options during the printing process.

Instructions

    • 1

Install Adobe Reader on your computer. Go to the Adobe website (adobe.com), scroll down until you see "Adobe Reader" in the "Downloads" section. Click on "Adobe Reader," then on the next screen click "Download now" and follow the directions.

    • 2

Go to the Federal Student Aid website (fafsa.ed.gov). Click "FAFSA Filing Options" at the bottom of the page.

    • 3

Click on the link to the appropriate FAFSA form under the "Complete a PDF FAFSA" heading. Choose the FAFSA form for the year you are seeking financial aid. The form will open automatically into Adobe Reader once you click the link. You can fill in the form on your computer then print it, or you can print out the blank form and fill it in by hand.

    • 4

Click the printer icon at the top of Adobe Reader. Do not use the "print" option of your web browser. The "Print" dialog box will appear.

    • 5

Click the "Advanced" button at the bottom of the dialog box. Another dialog box will open.

    • 6

Under the "Output" section, click the drop-down menu next to "Color" and select "Composite Gray." This will cause the color areas on the FAFSA form to print in a light gray. Click "OK" twice to send the form to the printer.
