Look for a work study job that pays well. Some colleges and universities offer cushy work study positions that pay more than standard jobs like cafeteria aids. Many colleges offer more money to student computer lab assistants, pre-law or pre-med positions and some office jobs.
Budget heavily to make sure you don't overspend. There's not time like the present to begin budgeting. Consider how much money you'll need to cover tuition, rent, food, gas, and other expenses.
Go to work even when you don't want to. There's always a tendency for students to become overwhelmed at various points throughout any given semester. When you feel as if you can't go on, remember that your work study job pays for your classes.
Cut out extra expenses. Whether your weakness is coffee, manicures, expensive meals or fast cars, try to weed out expenses that will ultimately take away from your pay check. Some things you can live without even though you think you can't.
Strive for a raise. If you're a good worker you will likely be invited back to your work study position for future semesters. You might even have the opportunity to rise through the ranks of student workers and become a supervisor. The pay is likely to go up and you can make further network connections within your college or university.
