Request a FAFSA application from the admissions or financial aid office at the college you plan to attend. You may also access the FAFSA application online at the link listed in the resource section.
Gather information needed to fill out the application. This will consist of tax records, household information and income data.
Complete the application, filling in all the requested information. An incomplete application can slow the processing of your request, reduce the amount of your benefit, or even result in a rejection.
Mail the application or submit the completed application online.
Check the status of your application by phone or on the Federal Student Aid Web site.
Accept or decline the aid offered. You will receive a letter stating the types of aid you qualify for. You must decide which aid sources to take advantage of and which to decline.
