Visit the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics website and check the requirements set out by your state to sit for the CNA licensing exam. Certified nursing assistants are licensed by the state in which they practice. While the requirements are often similar, you should verify that your planned course of study will meet your state requirements.
Compare the cost of various training programs. Many community college programs are cost effective and can be completed at night. Find out how many hours of classroom training and practical training you will receive.
Ask about job placement. A good certified nursing assistant program will help you obtain a job upon graduation.
Enroll in a nursing assistant training course and obtain your associate's degree. This will take approximately two years. Courses are offered at many community colleges and long-term care facilities. Use your research to verify that the program meets your sate licensing requirements.
Pass the clinical portion of the certified nursing licensing exam. A state examiner will test you on several of the skills you learned in your training course.
Pass the theoretical portion of the certified nursing assistant licensing exam. Study with the free sample questions provided by your state examination center. Take this exam in the state in which you intend to practice.
