The purpose of neonatal nurse education is to address the specific needs that infants have when they are born. Specifically, premature and sick infants require constant care, and neonatal nurses must be trained in addressing the needs of the baby as well as the new parents.
According to the website All Nursing Schools, prospective nurses initially must earn a bachelor's degree in science and become a registered nurse. In addition, neonatal nurses must obtain a master's of nursing degree.
Once all degree requirements are completed, prospective neonatal nurses will have to receive certification in neonatal resuscitation or neonatal intensive care nursing. However, even with all education and certification requirements completed, nurses are not likely be considered for a neonatal nurse position until they have put in years of clinical experience.
