Project-manager training courses are available to individuals employed as construction foremen and other supervisory positions. Programs range in length from 30-hour general knowledge courses to six-course programs that provide graduates with a certificate of completion and continuing education credits. Some institutions offer certificate programs on a part-time basis to accommodate working schedules.
Topics discussed during shorter programs include project planning, project schedule building, task assignment and conflict management. Courses offered to certificate students include the principles of construction project management, fundamentals of construction documents, computer enhanced planning, scheduling and control, fundamentals of construction cost estimating, and construction accounting basics.
In order to receive credit for completing the certificate program, some schools require that students take an additional course in health and safety in the construction field. This type of course discusses state and federal occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
