How to Design the Thesis Template

A thesis is a long research paper written as the final stage in completing a graduate degree.       Type the Title page. Orient the cursor on the page's 2-inch line. Click the Center button, located in the Paragraph portion of Microsoft Office's ribbon. In all caps, type "THESIS TITLE."

      Insert four blank lines. Type "By." On a new line, type "AUTHOR NAME." On the next line, type "CURRENT DEGREE" and "COLLEGE or UNIVERSITY." On the next line, type "CURRENT UNIVERSITY." On the next line, "UNIVERSITY'S CITY AND STATE." On the next line, type "CURRENT YEAR."

      Insert four more lines. Type "Submitted to the current graduate program of the current university name." Finally, type "Expected graduation month and year."

      Do not include quotation marks around the text in the template.

      Type the Table of Contents. Type "TABLE OF CONTENTS," without the quotation marks, at the top of the page. Skip two lines. Click the button at the top of the page that left- and right- justifies the page. This button is located in the ribbon's Paragraph section. On the far left, type "Chapter." On the far right, type "Page."

      Skip two lines. Type the section headings. Beneath the Chapter heading, type the following headings, skipping two lines between each heading: "I INTRODUCTION," "II REVIEW OF LITERATURE," "III METHODOLOGY," "IV FINDINGS," "V CONCLUSION" and "VI REFERENCES."

      Type several periods after each section heading title. Below the Page heading and after each row of periods, type a page number to indicate the student should insert the appropriate page number. For example, you could type a "1" after the INTRODUCTION, a "5" after the REVIEW OF LITERATURE, a "10" after METHODOLOGY and a "15" after FINDINGS.

      Do not include the quotation marks in your template.

      Save the file. Click the Office button. Click "Save As." Click "Microsoft Word Template." A dialog box will appear. Type the name of the template in the name field. Click "Save."
