Developed by Peter Miller, an inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Audio Institute of America offers Recording Engineer and Music Producer School, an online course with options for both home studio and professional work. The self-paced course takes about three months to complete, and graduates can apply to do hands-on postgraduate training at the Institute in San Francisco. The Audio Institute's complete mastering course is available in online form for $299, while the print version costs $499.
SAE Online, a division of the SAE Institute, offers short courses in audio mastering, sound design and other aspects of work in the music industry. In partnership with England's Middlesex University, SAE Online is also accredited to offer a Master of Arts degree in Professional Practice (Creative Media Industries). SAE's short course, "Live Sound Engineering," runs for four weeks at a cost of $525.
The online Musician University offers courses in music education and music recording. The self-paced, open-ended courses are facilitated by professionals in the industry and cover a range of topics in music mastering, mixing and editing. Musician University offers the "Complete Mastering Guide and Audio Editing" course year-round for $39.95.
Audio Master Class offers a comprehensive online course in basic music mastering and sound engineering, with a second level of professional courses also available for anyone completing the general program. The program can take up to two years to finish, with a certificate awarded upon completion. Cost of the basic course without a certificate is $277; completing the course with a certificate and assessments totals $417.
