Earn a Master's of Library Science from the North Carolina Central University online program. Coursework includes foundations of library and information services, organization of information, information retrieval and analysis, telecommunications systems, the academic library and information systems policy. Students are paired with an online adviser who will help them plan the right course load. The program is part-time only; students may only take three courses per semester.
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree with a minimum grade point average of 2.9 or higher, plus a copy of graduate school exam records, a letter of intent and two letters of recommendation. North Carolina Central advises students to have the Microsoft Office software package, DSL, email and the Windows XP or most recent Mac operating system.

Future librarians interested in the reference concentration may enroll in The State University of New York at Buffalo's master of library science program. The degree may be completed in two years--including two summer sessions--with all classes available online. Courses include introduction to library and information studies, organization and control of recorded information, collection development, user education, digital information retrieval, introduction to information technology and management of libraries and information agencies.
Students applying to the SUNY program must submit two letters of reference, a personal statement and an application stating that their legal residency is more than 60 miles from the university or provide a reason for inability to attend on-campus classes. Transcripts from an undergraduate degree are also required.

Texas Woman's University's school of library and information studies offers its master of library science degree both online and in the classroom. Class topics include information professions, organization of technical services, library management, information services and sources, information organization and retrieval and collection development. While on campus, students have the opportunity to join Beta Phi Mu, the international library and information studies honor society and GLISA, the graduate library and information studies association.
Applicants must submit exam scores, a resume, a two-page professional statement and three letters of recommendation. Minimum grade point average for undergraduate work should be 3.0 or higher. Although the program may be completed entirely online, students have the opportunity to attend fall forums once a year to meet faculty and classmates.
