The University of Massachusetts at Lowell, established in 1975, offers a certificate in Land Surveying. Students pursue six courses designed to prepare them for the school's associate's or bachelor's degree offerings in Civil Engineering Technology. Coursework includes Surveying I, II, and III, Legal Aspects of Land Surveying, Engineering Graphics, and Precalculus Mathematics II--all of which are required. There are also additional elective components. The coursework may be completed either full- or part-time, with online courses consisting of 10 to 14 week sessions. Summer courses, however, generally consist of study from May through August. Students must display consistency in their work, sustaining a GPA of 2.0 Potential applicants must possess a high school diploma, or its equivalent.

The University of Wyoming, founded in 1886, offers a Land Surveying certificate through its Outreach School. The Outreach School allows for the pursuit of degree programs or coursework, via distance learning. Students interested in participating in the program must gain formal admittance to the university. Coursework is offered through the university's College of Engineering and Applied Science's Civil and Architectural Engineering program. Students complete a minimum of 24 credit hours, and courses include Ethics for the Professional Surveyor, GIS for Surveyors, Route Surveying, Advanced Surveying, and Coastal Water Boundaries. Courses are offered at various times throughout the school year, but are not available every semester, so students should plan accordingly.

North Dakota State College of Science, a two-year college, was established in 1903. The college offers an associate's degree in Civil Engineering and Surveying Technology.
