Who was the first Black person to receive an earned doctoral degree and would later become servr as a president of predominantly white university?
That would be Dr. John Hope. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and later served as president of Morehouse College (a historically Black college) and Atlanta University (also historically Black). While he didn't preside over a predominantly white university, his achievements were groundbreaking for Black academics in the early 20th century. There wasn't a Black president of a predominantly white university until much later.
