Top Veterinarian Schools & Colleges

U.S. News and World Report is the only publication that ranks the best veterinary programs in the United States. The top five are at Cornell University, Colorado State University, the University of California Davis Campus, the University of Pennsylvania and North Carolina State University. These schools are all accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the complete list of AVMA accredited schools is available on the AVMA web site.

    • The College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., was ranked the number one best veterinary program in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. The College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell was founded in 1894 and offers a doctor in veterinary medicine degree, a Ph.D. in veterinary medicine, and a dual D.V.M./Ph.D. program.

    Colorado State University

    • The College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO, was ranked the second best veterinary program in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. The college was founded in 1907 and offers a doctor of veterinary medicine degree as well as series of combination degrees including a D.V.M. in conjunction with a master’s in business administration, a master’s in public health or a Ph.D.

    UC Davis

    • The School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California Davis Campus in San Francisco, CA, is the only veterinary school in the state of California. U.S. News and World Report ranked this school the third best veterinary program in the United States. The UC Davis College of Veterinary Medicine was founded in 1948 and offers a D.V.M., a master’s of preventive veterinary medicine, a D.V.M./Ph.D. dual degree, and a master’s of public health jointly offered with UC Davis School of Medicine.

    University of Pennsylvania

    • The School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania has two campuses, one in Philadelphia and one in New Bolton, PA. Ranked the fourth best veterinary program in the United States by U.S. News and World Report, the school was founded in 1884 and offers a veterinary medical doctor degree, a Ph.D. in veterinary medicine, and a joint V.M.D./Ph.D. degree or joint V.M.D./master’s in business administration degree.

    North Carolina State University

    • The College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University was ranked the fifth best veterinary school in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. The school was founded in 1985 and is one of the youngest veterinary programs in the country. The college offers a D.V.M. degree as well as joint programs with other schools at the university.
