Help & Tips for Passing NCLEX

The NCLEX is the standarized test that a nursing student must pass to officially become a Registered Nurse (a RN). It can be nervewracking experience for anyone to take a licensing test, so here are some tips and advice to passing the NCLEX with ease.
  1. Prepare the Night Before

    • Get a good night's rest by going to bed early. Avoid alcohol the night before, and limit the amount of caffeine you consume because it can make you too jittery to get a good night's sleep. Figure out what you are going to wear and make sure you dress in layers so you can adjust what you are wearing if the exam center is too hot or too cold for you.

    Take Your Time

    • Read each section carefully. You will be provided with a piece of scratch paper to take notes and to do calculations. Do not rush yourself; make sure you understand each question and you answer it correctly to the best of your knowledge before moving on to another one. Pay attention to key words in each question that could provide a clue as to the correct answer.

    Be Confident

    • You can do this. You've prepared for months, you've graduated from nursing school and you know what you're doing! Stay positive and do what you can to stay focused on the task at hand. While in the exam, take slow, deep breaths if you start to feel anxious. Don't think about the fact you're scared; just remind yourself that you are doing the best job you can.

    Ace The Final Question

    • The computer will shut down whenever you have answered enough questions correctly to pass the exam, or when you have answered enough incorrectly to fail. If you make it to the last question (number 265) without the computer shutting off, that means you have one last question to get it right. If you don't answer that question correctly, you fail the exam.
