The Best MCAT Practice Tests

The MCAT or Medical College Admission Test is one of the most important tests an applicant to medical school will ever take and your score plays a crucial role in gaining admission to a top-tier school. The Association of American Medical Colleges recommends taking one or more practice tests in preparation for the MCAT. Practice tests help students review the material they need to know and gauge their level of knowledge and understanding.
  1. Association of American Medical Colleges

    • Of the 134 accredited medical schools in the U.S., the AAMC represents them all. It offers one full-length MCAT practice test at no charge. You can buy additional full-length tests through its website. AAMC practice tests feature questions previously used in the MCAT, making these among the most authentic practice tests available. The AAMC also provides solutions and diagnostic reports. The cost for practice tests is $35 each as of March 2011.

    The Princeton Review

    • The Princeton Review offers MCAT practice tests, including those available through AAMC. Practice tests are not available for separate purchase but accessed through the variety of learning formats offered by The Princeton Review, including self-directed learning, private tutoring, online and local classes. The Princeton Review is an examination preparation company not affiliated with Princeton University. Cost varies based on the preparation method chosen.

    Kaplan

    • Examination preparation company Kaplan Test Prep's "MCAT 2011-2012 Premier" is a comprehensive interactive guide that includes four MCAT practice tests. The guide, available as of March 2011, is $73 and includes online workshops. A separate publication includes practice tests and is available for $25 as of March 2011.

    Xavier University

    • The best practice tests for the MCAT are not necessarily specific to the MCAT, according to Louisiana's Xavier University. The MCAT requires students to read and comprehend complex material, making inferences and extracting information. These are skills not necessarily honed by studying science and biology. Xavier University recommends the reading comprehension sections of "10 Actual, Official LSAT Prep Tests" to prepare for the verbal reasoning section of the MCAT. The list price for this book is $30 as of March 2011.
