In addition to your major coursework, you should also take courses in the humanities and social sciences, as well as extracurricular activities that develop your leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
Once you have completed your bachelor's degree, you will need to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and apply to medical school. Medical school typically lasts for four years, and during that time you will take courses in human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and other medical sciences. You will also complete clinical rotations in different specialties, including cardiology.
After medical school, you will need to complete a residency training program in internal medicine. Residency training typically lasts for three years, and during that time you will gain experience diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions, including cardiovascular diseases.
After completing residency training, you can apply for fellowship training in cardiology. Fellowship training typically lasts for two to three years, and during that time you will gain advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
Once you have completed your fellowship training, you will be board-certified in cardiology and eligible to practice as a cardiologist.
