Top Universities in UK for Law

There are many UK universities offering courses in the study of law in which students learn about civil and criminal legal systems. Several British newspapers, "The Times" and "The Guardian" for example, publish standings tables each year in which these universities are ranked according to a range of criteria, such as quality of research and graduate prospects.
  1. Cambridge University

    • A degree from the Faculty of Law at this prestigious university, part of the 'Oxbridge' duo (along with Oxford) of Britain's oldest universities, is bound to stand a student in good stead with employers. The Faculty has around 750 undergraduates at any one time, who can make use of the university's independent law-oriented library, the Squire Law library, with its extensive resources.

Courses available include the B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) along with LLM (Master of Laws) and Ph.D opportunities and MPhil courses in areas such as criminological research.

    Oxford University

    • Like Cambridge, Oxford's prestigious and historical reputation ensures that a law degree from this university is eye-catching on a student's resume. The University ranked highly on the Guardian's University Guide 2010, coming in at second place, and the Faculty, which is spread over 30 of Oxford's colleges, has a student-to-staff ratio of seven-to-one.

Oxford's law courses differ somewhat from those offered elsewhere in the U.K.. For example, the faculty at Oxford teaches not only in lectures but in tutorials, too, a teaching method that is personalized to each student. The university also boasts one of the largest law faculties in the U.K.
