Determine which academic field or program you intend to use this CV. You should only include academic experience, skills and research that relate directly to that field. For example, if you intend to study politics at a university, including your laboratory experience with a biologist will not improve your prospects of acceptance.
Enter your name and contact information at the top of the document. Include Current and Permanent Address sections if you intend to move while your CV is being submitted to an admissions or hiring committee.
Enter your academic degrees beginning with the most recent. Include the type of degree, the institution where the degree was granted, your majors or areas of specialization and the date it was (or is expected to be) granted.
Enter your dissertation title (if applicable) and academic adviser. Include a short summary of your primary argument and methodologies. You may also include a brief sentence after your dissertation title summarizing your secondary professional interests.
List any scholarships, fellowships, grants and academic distinctions received. You may include a brief phrase describing the nature (and financial amount) of each award. Only list academic awards that specifically relate to your field, unless the award is nationally or internationally renowned.
List all related teaching and research experience. Be sure to indicate the position you held, the institution where you were employed, the length of employment and the title of the course or research. You may also include a brief description of your research or course content.
List all publications related to your field of study, including papers in scholarly journals, academic conference papers and papers written for major publications. The format for this section should be in the citation style of your field. It is acceptable in most academic fields to list publications that have been approved, but have not yet been published.
List any other information that you believe may be relevant to your field. You can include sections such as academic administrative work, membership in professional groups and languages.
