To be eligible for admission to Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), candidates must meet the following requirements:
1. Academic Requirements:
a) Undergraduate Programs:
- Intermediate or equivalent qualification with at least 60% marks in the relevant pre-engineering group.
- Hafiz-e-Quran candidates may be eligible for a 10% relaxation in the required marks.
- Candidates who have completed their Matriculation or O-Level examination under the Cambridge system are also eligible for admission, provided they have obtained a minimum of Grade C in five subjects, including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and one elective subject.
b) Postgraduate Programs:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering, technology, or science field from a recognized university with at least 60% marks.
- Master's degree holders in relevant fields may also be eligible for admission to the PhD program, provided they have obtained at least 3.0 CGPA or equivalent in their master's degree.
2. Entrance Test:
a) Undergraduate Programs:
- Candidates applying for undergraduate programs must appear in the Mehran University Engineering and Technology Entry Test (MUET-ET), which is conducted annually.
- The MUET-ET consists of multiple-choice questions from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English.
b) Postgraduate Programs:
- Candidates applying for postgraduate programs must appear in the Graduate Aptitude Test (GAT), which is conducted by the National Testing Service (NTS) on behalf of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.
- Some departments or programs may also conduct their own departmental tests or interviews for postgraduate admissions.
3. Merit and Quota:
Admission to MUET is based on merit, determined by the combined scores obtained in the entrance test and the academic record of the candidate.
A certain percentage of seats are reserved for specific categories, such as disabled persons, sportspersons, employees of MUET, and children of MUET employees.

- Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria and have performed well in the GAT are shortlisted for interviews.
- The final selection is based on the candidate's performance in the interview, GAT score, academic record, and research potential (if applicable).
