Texas has several universities to choose from including Texas A&M University and University of Houston. Some community colleges to choose from are Brookhaven college, Remington college or Westwood college. You can attend a two year college and receive an Associates in art education and then transfer to a university to major in Fine Arts. By doing this you will save thousands of dollars, earn two degrees, and have more possibilities for scholarships.
Go to the Texas State Board for Education Certification and register to take the certification test. You can take it online as well. The test will cover the basics of teaching.
Certain universities in Texas offer teacher training. West Texas A&M University offers internships during which you'll work as a student teacher for several weeks. This will help you get the training you will need to teach your own art class. During the teacher training, you will also be required to finish your bachelor's degree in Fine Arts.
Apply at nearby school districts. Upon achieving your bachelor's degree and certification, you can move on to finding work.
