How to Apply for Florida A&M University

Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, also known as FAMU, is a historically black college located in Tallahassee, Florida. The institution was founded in 1887 as the Normal College for Colored Students. It is the only historically black university or college that is publicly funded in Florida. To apply to FAMU, complete an application online or contact the university at 850-599-3796 to request an application in the mail.

      Go to famu.edu and select the "Apply Now!" link toward the bottom of the homepage. Then select the "Apply Online" option.

      Create an account. You must include your first and last name, username and password, as well as email address. Once your account is created, you can start the online application.

      Complete your online application. Your application includes information about your educational history, such as your grade point average and credits completed. You must submit an essay as part of your online application.

      Enter in your credit or debit card details to submit a nonrefundable fee. If you prefer to mail in a check for your application fee, consider applying by mail. As of April 2010, the fee is $35.

      Download and print a Teacher/Counselor Recommendation Form. Ask a teacher or counselor to complete this form on your behalf. The recommendation asks teachers or counselors to assess you as a student, your acadamedic discipline, motivation and character.

      Send or request that your official school transcripts from the high school you attended, official SAT or ACT scores and teacher or counselor recommendation be sent to:
