Prepare to write your admissions essay by researching your college and faculty of choice. Read any brochures and information the college puts out about admissions, courses and faculties. Start early to avoid being stressed and leaving things to the last minute. If you are given a topic or question, brainstorm possible responses before starting to write the essay. Draft a rough outline for your essay before beginning.
Write the introduction. The first sentence is vital and should be compelling and attention-grabbing. The first sentence may explain why you want to study the subject of interest or the motivation that influenced this desire. Following the initial paragraph, provide a brief explanation that supports the claim made in the first sentence. Anecdotes or stories can be a method of introducing yourself and your future goals.
Write the body. The body consists of around three paragraphs. Each paragraph should have one topic statement introduced in the initial sentence and expanded in the subsequent sentences. The final sentence in each paragraph should conclude the paragraph and provide a transition to the next paragraph. Include relevant experience, accomplishments, educational and professional background. Reasons for attending the college should be stated. Conclude the body of the essay by providing a paragraph stating why you should be accepted. Make sure this is written persuasively and provides a compelling argument.
Write the conclusion. The conclusion consists of one paragraph reiterating the key points stated in the body. If possible, link the conclusion back to your introductory paragraph. If you provided an anecdote in your introduction, finish telling that story in the conclusion. End on a positive note.
Proofread the essay thoroughly for errors before submitting. Make sure your admission essay is presented in a fluent, logical and grammatically correct manner. Check punctuation and spelling. Make sure your ideas are coherent, creative and are organized logically. Ask others to read your essay and provide feedback. Make sure you format and present your essay in a professional way.
