Create the resume in categories and keep information in the appropriate category. Examples of categories include extra-curricular activities, volunteer experience, work experience and hobbies.
Focus on the positive aspects of your personality, such as motivated, hard-working, focused and determined. Avoid using words that may have negative connotations, such as nervous, picky or laid back.
Supply examples of activities you enjoy that portray your positive traits, such as hobbies, extra-curricular activities and personal experiences. Tie these into your personality traits. However, you can also include activities that are important parts of your life that do not tie directly into your listed traits.
Highlight areas of your life that make you stand out from the other applicants. For instance, if you were a member of the National Honor Society and took part in community service projects, include that in your resume. This type of experience shows a selfless attitude and dedication to helping others.
Solicit close friends and family members to help you come up with accurate, yet flattering descriptions of yourself. They may see important attributes in yourself that you may not notice.
Provide brief descriptions. Admissions officers do not want to spend hours reading through all of the college resumes. Choose your words carefully and get to the point quickly. Your resume should be no more than one-page long.
