One of the most important aspects of your portfolio is the work that shows your talents and skills. Include high-quality prints in the portfolio of your artwork, best photography or graphic design. You can either take photos of your artwork or have these items scanned. Digital photography and other prints should be printed on glossy photo paper for the best appearance. Choose only completed works that reflect your skills and experience and choose a variety of style, art mediums and subjects.
Since we live in the digital age, it is recommended that you also include a disk that has your digital files loaded onto it in a well-organized manner. You can also put together a DVD that has a slideshow of your finished work. This gives you more opportunities to show your work to the college you are applying to, rather than trying to choose a smaller amount of prints for your portfolio. Label the disk clearly and place it in a sleeve or pocket of the portfolio where it will be easily found.
Include a resume that is well-written with your educational experience such as art classes you have taken or other courses pertaining to what you hope to study. If you have any work experience in the field, awards won, works sold at auction, articles published or anything similar, include that information on your resume. Remember to include contact information as well including your full name, home address, email address and phone number.
Presentation is just as important as what you include in your portfolio for college admissions. Be sure that your portfolio is well organized by separating the prints into categories such as all prints of a certain media or all photographs of a type of subject. Each print should go in its own sleeve and be secure to where nothing will fall out of the portfolio. Label each item in your portfolio with its contents, title, date created, dimensions and medium. If it is a print of a piece of artwork that has been sold, include that information as well.
