The job outlook for cosmetologists is expected to be good over the next few years. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that the number of jobs for cosmetologists will grow by 13% from 2019 to 2029, faster than the average for all occupations. This growth is expected to be driven by increased demand for hair care and other beauty services as the population ages and more people choose to invest in their appearance.
As of May 2020, there were 725,600 cosmetologists employed in the United States. The BLS projects that there will be 819,900 cosmetologists employed in 2029.
