College MBA Degrees

Different types of MBA (Master of Business Administration) degree programs are offered at various business schools around the nation. Students wanting to work in the corporate sector in the United States may want to pursue a more traditional MBA degree while those who want to work abroad may want to consider a global MBA program. Executives and managers with multiple years of experience have the option of pursuing an Executive MBA (EMBA) at some institutions.
  1. Rochester Institute of Technology--Executive MBA Online

    • One option for a college MBA degree is the EMBA option. One school offering this type of degree in an online format is the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Some schools offers this degree in a more traditional format but given the often hectic nature of an executive's schedule, the online EMBA option is gaining some momentum. RIT's EMBA program provides a good representative example of courses and requirements of online EMBA programs nationwide. The RIT program only requires students to be on campus when they begin the program in order to attend an orientation session and to allow students to establish potential networking connections with other EMBA students. Aside from the initial visit, students may perform the entirety of their executive education coursework from anywhere they can connect to the Internet. Courses offered are a mixture of traditional MBA courses and those that are geared toward executive education. Some of these include business ethics, consumer and business marketing, economics, executive leadership, managerial accounting and strategic thinking.

    Northwestern University--Traditional MBA

    • A more traditional MBA option is to simply pursue the two-year MBA offered at many graduate business schools across the nation. One school offering this option is Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. The Kellogg School is considered to be one of the best business schools in the nation. Ranked third by "Business Week" and fourth by "U.S. News & World Report" in 2010, Kellogg is world-renowned for its variety of degree programs. The MBA program at Northwestern is offered in a variety of formats--full-time, part-time, evenings and weekends. Concentrations within the program include finance, managerial economics and decision sciences, accounting and marketing, among others.

    Dartmouth College--Global MBA

    • A third option among MBA degrees is the increasingly popular "Global MBA." Global MBA degree plans differ from traditional MBA degree plans in emphasis. Global MBA programs tend to emphasize international business theories and practice over and above domestic concerns. One school offering this option is the Tuck School of Management at Dartmouth College. Dartmouth's program is nationally ranked. "Financial Times" ranked it No. 13 in the world. Dartmouth is home to several global business research centers such as the Center for International Business and the Center for Global Leadership. Global programs like the Dartmouth program usually offer students study-abroad opportunities. For example, students at Dartmouth have the opportunity to study at other institutions that work in partnership with Dartmouth in locations such as London, Paris and Sydney. Courses within global MBA programs typically reflect the global focus. Some of these include global economics, global strategy and implementation and international corporate finance.
