The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at Goldfarb contains several options. Transfer students can choose the Upper Division option, a full-time, 66-hour program that lasts five terms. Fifty-four additional hours of Upper Division prerequisite classes must be completed at other universities. Students must also make themselves available for studies, labs and clinical hours 30 to 40 hours per week. Clinical hours are served at either the Barnes-Jewish Hospital or at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Graduates are required to take and pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN) before being licensed and able to work. The school also has a one-year accelerated option for students who already have bachelor's degrees in a non-nursing field, and a part-time RN-to-BSN program for nurses who already have their RN licenses.
Nurses wishing to obtain a Master of Science in nursing can choose from five "concentrations": nurse executive, nurse educator, nurse anesthesia, nurse practitioner and acute care nurse practitioner. Students of the acute care program study critical care skills and learn invasive procedures. To become certified, they must pass exams from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Nurse practitioner students learn advanced practices and must take the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners exams. Nurse anesthesia concentration includes an anatomy course with a cadaver laboratory. Students in this program need to pass the National Board on Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists certification exam. Nurse educators must pass a teaching practicum and take the National League for Nursing's Certified Nurse Educator exam. Nurse executives focus on management skills and leadership, and take the American Organization of Nurse Executives and the American Nurses Credentialing Center exams.
The Goldfarb School of Nursing has a Doctor of Nursing Practice/Doctor of Philosophy dual nursing degree. Students must have already completed master's degrees. The course includes a dissertation and clinical work, as well as projects and advanced research. Ph.D classes are held online, with regular five-day intensive classes held on campus.
