Students entering Grand Canyon University must take a four credit course called University Foundations. There are two sections of this class--one for students with less than 24 credits and one for students transferring more than 24 credits. This class will help students develop the skills they will need to be successful at GCU.
Students are also required to take a four credit course called Christian Worldview. This course gives the student an understanding of Christian heritage.
Students must take eleven to twelve credits in the Critical Thinking area to develop analytical and problem-solving skills. At least three of these credits must be in mathematics. There are many courses in this category including physics, theology, technology, biology, economics, accounting and philosophy.
Between nine and twelve credits are required in the Effective Communication category. Students will learn to communicate effectively to various audiences for various purposes. At least three credits must be in English composition or grammar. Other classes included in this category are communication, critical reading and foreign language.
The final area of the core requirements is Global Awareness, Perspectives, and Ethics. Students must complete six to eight credits in this area. The purpose of these classes is to expand the student's awareness of different cultures and values. There are a variety of classes included in this category including government, psychology, anthropology, art, music, theater and political science.
