According to the Project Management Institute, a high school diploma or general education diploma (GED) is the required level of education for an individual to take the CAPM exam. In addition, 1,500 hours of project management experience or 23 hours of project management college courses are required.
Because most project managers work on projects that are related to construction, information technology and other areas of business, choosing either a certificate or degree program in these areas will be helpful if you desire to obtain 1,500 hours of project management experience. If you choose to satisfy 23 hours of project management education, these courses may be offered in a university business-related program.
Go to your local library or conduct online searches to find out the name and number of colleges or universities in your local area that offer project management courses. If you have acquired a high school diploma and 7,500 hours of experience in directing and managing projects, you may be eligible to apply for the project management professional exam (PMP). To apply for the PMP exam you must also have 35 hours of project management education.
