Co-ed prep schools accept both male and female students. Students live on campus in residence halls. Male and female students reside in separate buildings but attend classes together. Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Perkiomen School in Pennsburg and Solebury School in New Hope are a few co-ed prep schools located in Pennsylvania. These schools serve students in grades 6 through 12.
Serving students in grades 6 through 12, both the Grier School in Tyrone and the Linden Hall School in Lititz are girls-only prep schools. Signature programs at Grier School include art, dance and horseback riding. Linden Hall School has achieved first-position rankings in SAT scores in central Pennsylvania and in the nation.
With an emphasis on individual tutoring and small classes, Kiskiminetas, known as Kiski for short, Springs School is a boys' prep school located in Saltsburg. Headed by a former teacher, Kiski offers a traditional college-prep curriculum along with programs in technology and the arts. Serving grades 9 through 12, Kiski is a 7-day boarding school where family members are allowed to visit at any time.
Military prep schools are more structured than standard prep schools. Students wear military-style garb and follow military-style commands during most of their day. Located in New Bloomfield, Carson Long Military Academy staff refer to students as cadets. Carson Long's principles are structured to build character and leadership skills and to create opportunities for all enrolled cadets.
