In many cities around the world, despite efforts to eradicate racism, you still will find many enclaves or neighborhoods in a city populated by a high percentage of members of a certain race. An anthropologist could study the ongoing role that race has in urban development and in the creation of stand-alone communities within a larger center. This project could include comparisons of how this process differs depending on what part of the world a researcher looks at.
There can be no doubt that racism has played a huge role in the development of many countries. The United States is a perfect example of a nation that has been largely influenced by the racism that ran rampant for generations. An anthropologist could choose to research how racism played a part in the country as a whole, or in the various cultural and social institutions within the country. For instance, how did racism play a part in the development of the educational system? Racism could also be looked at in terms of how it impacted the history and development of certain states in the union.
Marriage is one of the cultural institutions that anthropologists look at for the weight that it has carried in the development of so many commonly accepted societal norms and of society as a whole. Race has played a role in marriage over the years. An anthropologist could choose to research the role that race has played in marriage, and how that role has changed over the years. An anthropologist might also research whether or not the shifting role of race in marriage affected any other aspects of a society, and if so, how.
In physical anthropology, the discussion of race is often about whether or not it has any role in the field, and if so, what that role should be. A physical anthropologist could research the role that race has played in physical anthropology in the past, or could write about developments in the field and where they think research based on race should be directed, or if it should be looked at in a new way based on changes to the field. Research could also be done into faulty examinations of physical anthropology based on race that have been conducted in the past.
