  1. Application

    • You will need to obtain an application for admission. Many schools have this application available online. You can visit or call the admissions office and request an application in person or by mail. Enter your full name, parents' names, Social Security number, date of birth, country of citizenship and educational background on the application. Also select your intended major program of study. Some applications may require that you enter your student ID number which was assigned by your high school or past college.

    Identification

    • When enrolling in a community or vocational college, you will need to show your state-issued or school identification card. If under 18, a parent or guardian will need to enroll you and she will be required to show her identification. If you're not a U.S. citizen, you will need to show proof of citizenship or a passport.

    Supplemental Materials

    • When applying for admission to a four-year college or university, you will need to submit your official school transcripts, letters of recommendation and official SAT or ACT test scores. All of these documents must be sent directly from the school, person or agency to the admissions office of the school you're applying to. Some vocational and community colleges may also require that you submit an official transcript or other document proving that you completed high school or earned a GED, along with official test scores.

    Vaccination

    • Many schools will require that you complete a vaccination form. This form is often available online or as part of the application available at the admissions office. You, or your parent if under 18, must verify that you've received the required vaccinations before being allowed to enroll in classes.
