Hold the TIG welder to the aluminum at a 70 to 80 degree angle. Do not let the tungsten touch the aluminum. There should be at least 1/4 to 1/2 inch between the tungsten and aluminum to avoid contaminating the tungsten electrode.
Use the foot pedal to increase or decrease the heat. As you move the welding tool, use the foot pedal to increase or decrease the size of the welding puddle to keep it roughly constant.
Dab your filler metal, which should have similar mechanical properties to 2024 aluminum, into the welding puddle.
Move your welding tool over the length of the surface that you wish to weld. Pull away the welding tool to end the arc.
Leave the torch over the weld to protect it as it cools.
