How to Cook Stromboli Over a Campfire

Next time you go on a camping trip, consider cooking over a campfire. Not only does campfire cooking allow you to eat "real food," like stromboli, but when you are out in the wild, it also has an undeniable charm. No one ever forgets the smell of campfire smoke mixed with the aromas of delicious food. The most sure-ire way to cook stromboli is over a Dutch oven. While this does limit the distance that you can travel on your camping expedition, the results will be better than with any other cooking method.

  • Dutch oven
  • Pre-made pizza dough
  • Meatballs
  • Vegetables
  • Mozzarella

      Sprinkle flour over the floor of the Dutch oven. Roll out the dough and spread it so that it covers the bottom of the Dutch oven.

      Sprinkle the dough with olive oil, and place meatballs, vegetables and other toppings on top of half of the dough surface.

      Pull the other half of the dough over the toppings, and use your fingers to seal the edges of the dough together to form a pocket.

      Poke holes in the stromboli with a fork, allowing the pocket to vent.

      Ignite the coals underneath the oven. For better effect, put some on top of the oven, for even cooking. Cooking should only take 15 minutes, and the results will be delicious.
