College Demonstration Speech Topics

Giving a demonstration speech in college allows speakers to show how something works or explain the function of a product or process. Students should remember that these types of speeches must use clear and informative language to help the audience understand the demonstration. To make the speech more engaging, speakers should use charts, graphs and multimedia presentation software when appropriate.
  1. Health

    • Demonstration speeches on health topics -- particularly for a nursing program -- can include displaying healthy living and patient care. Demonstrating to the class how to lose weight, stay fit, choose a fitness instructor, cook healthy meals, shop for organic food and control problems such as diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure can prepare you for giving health seminars at hospitals. Topics about patient care can address how to choose the right doctor, health plan, insurance company, hospital or long-term care facility for an aging parent or grandparent. Demonstrating how the overall health system works, along with the production of organic food and the procedures health professionals use to make people well all are options. Because health topics contain a lot of so-called doctor-speak, students should refrain from using complicated language.

    Economy

    • Speech topics on the economy can include money issues and employment. Speeches about financial issues can address how to develop a budget, using coupons to save money on groceries, shopping at consignment stores, buying in bulk and shopping online for deals. Employment topics can include how to look for a job, write a resume, use a recruiter, look online for job opportunities and file for unemployment compensation. Explaining how simple things work -- such as how to apply for a mortgage and how banks cash a check -- can make for an educational presentation in your economics class.

    Travel

    • Travel speeches can help sharpen your public-speaking skills and assist classmates with getting the best deals on a trip or upcoming vacation. Topics can include how to choose a fun spring break destination, pick an inexpensive rental car company, find the cheapest flights and book trips with a travel agent. Topics can also address college students living on a budget including how to spend less on a trip, do free things close to home and use online deals to get discounts and freebies. Demonstration speeches can also address how travel agencies work, how airlines book guests and keep track of everyone in the sky; students can also explain the process of the National Transportation Safety Board and investigating accidents or the function of the Federal Aviation Administration.

    Education

    • Education speeches can help students who aim to make the most of their college education or those who look forward to graduate school. Topics can include how to live with a roommate, eat healthy in the dining hall, talk to a professor about a low grade and make the most of studying. Other topics can include how to build a resume for graduate school (or future employment), take a standardized test or pay for furthering an education. Alternatively, demonstrate how the student loan process works, how the government funds education and how alternative education -- such as charter schools, homeschooling and cyberschool -- operates.
