How to Do an Executive Summary on a Case Study

An executive summary is written to give the reader a general overview of the case study. Many times people, such as executives, do not have time to read the entire case study, so the executive summary can serve as a way for them to get a quick overview, instead of reading the longer version. An executive summary should be no more than one page long, as it is meant to simply summarize the highlights of the case study.

Instructions

    • 1

State the problem discussed in the case study. The reader should be able to review the executive summary and understand why the case study was written. Explain this in one paragraph.

    • 2

Provide an overview of the company or scenario that the case study focuses on. This should be brief, about a paragraph in length, but enough for the reader to get a little background information to have a better understanding of the case study.

    • 3

Inform the reader of the issues associated with the case study, and the results produced from it. Don't go into great detail with this, just give a brief, one paragraph overview.

    • 4

State, in the final paragraph, any assumptions that have been used in the case study. This will be necessary for the reader to understand the analysis.
