How to Write About Structural Equation Models

Structural equation modeling is a general approach to data analysis involving multiple variables. A structural equation model provides a causal relationship between the different variables involved in a system. It provides researchers with a statistical tool to test the accuracy of mathematical models. Researchers might use the method to test the fit of their model or to decide between two or more causal models. Writing about structural equation models allows researchers to share proof that they have tested their mathematical models using the appropriate methods.

Instructions

    • 1

Introduce the system that you attempted to model. Provide an overview of the existing work on the subject and the considerations that went into developing your model. Include a walk-through of the individual components of your model.

    • 2

Demonstrate the structural equation model. Include a graphic showing the weighting and interaction of each variable. Provide charts and data from any tests that you performed on your model using the structural equation model.

    • 3

Describe what effect the results of the structural equation models had on your final model. Identify any latent or unobserved variables that the structural equation model revealed.
