According to the College Board's Trends in College Pricing 2022 report, the average published tuition and fees for a four-year private college were $38,070 for the 2021-2022 academic year. This represents an increase of 2.6% over the previous year. However, the actual cost of attendance (which includes tuition, fees, room and board, and other expenses) is typically much higher than the published tuition and fees. For example, the average net cost of attendance (after deducting financial aid) for a four-year private college was $19,230 for the 2021-2022 academic year.
