Average Tuition to the University of UCLA

The University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) has an excellent reputation as a strong public university. One of the largest schools in the University of California system, UCLA is located in Westwood, Los Angeles, and was founded in 1919. UCLA has five undergraduate colleges, seven professional schools and five professional health science schools. The university receives more applications than any other institution in the United States and has an enrollment of around 39,000 students, with 27,000 undergraduates and 12,000 post-graduates.
  1. Undergraduate: In-State

    • California residents who attend UCLA pay several different kinds of fees and tuition. In 2009-2010, they paid $10,781 in university fees, $1,087 for health insurance, approximately $1,608 in books and supplies, anywhere from $4,359 to $13,734 for room and board (depending on whether they are living with relatives, in the residence halls or in a fraternity or sorority), between $912 and $1,587 for transportation (depending on how close they live to campus), and between $1,000 and $2,000 for personal expenses, for a total amount from $21,663 to $29,682.

    Undergraduate: Out-of-State

    • Nonresidents of California pay all of the same fees as the undergraduate California students. However, in addition, they must pay non-resident tuition, which was $22,021 in 2009-2010. Therefore, their total cost of attending UCLA ranges from $44,542 to $52,561.

    Graduate: In-State

    • UCLA graduate students who are also California residents must pay in-state fees of $12,580.58, which includes the university registration fee, the resident educational fee, the graduate student's association fee, the graduate writing center fee, the Ackerman Student Union fee, the Seismic Fee for Ackerman/Kerchkhoff, the Wooden Center Fee, a fee for student programs and mandatory medical insurance.

    Graduate: Out-of-State

    • Out-of-state graduate students attending UCLA must pay the $12,580.58 in fees that in-state students pay; however, they must also pay the non-resident tuition of $14,694, for a total cost of $27,682.58, excluding living expenses.
