- Plywood (2 sheets, 1/2-inch thick)
- 2x4 lumber (10 pieces, 8 feet long)
- 1x4 lumber (10 pieces, 8 feet long)
- 1-inch wood screws
- 2-inch wood screws
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper
- Paint or stain (optional)
Step 2: Construct the frame
1. Cut the 2x4 lumber into the following lengths:
- 4 pieces at 8 feet long
- 6 pieces at 3 feet long
2. Assemble the frame of the bookcase using the 2x4 lumber and 2-inch wood screws. The frame should be 8 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and 12 inches deep.
Step 3: Install the shelves
1. Cut the plywood into the following lengths:
- 4 pieces at 3 feet long
- 2 pieces at 4 feet long
2. Attach the shelves to the frame of the bookcase using the 1-inch wood screws. The shelves should be spaced evenly apart, with the top shelf about 6 inches from the top of the bookcase and the bottom shelf about 12 inches from the bottom.
Step 4: Add the trim
1. Cut the 1x4 lumber into the following lengths:
- 4 pieces at 8 feet long
- 4 pieces at 4 feet long
2. Attach the trim pieces to the front of the bookcase using the 1-inch wood screws. The trim pieces should cover the edges of the shelves and the gaps between the shelves.
Step 5: Add the hidden door
1. Determine where you want the hidden door to be located.
2. Cut an opening in the back of the bookcase the same size as the hidden door.
3. Build a door frame using 2x4 lumber and attach it to the opening.
4. Attach a door to the door frame using 2-inch wood screws. The door should be the same size as the opening and made from the same material as the rest of the bookcase.
5. Install a lock on the door.
6. Add trim around the door to match the rest of the bookcase.
7. Paint the inside of the bookcase and the hidden room to match the theme of the room.
Step 6: Add the casters
1. Attach the casters to the bottom of the bookcase.
Step 7: Finish the bookcase
1. Sand the bookcase to smooth out any rough edges.
2. Paint or stain the bookcase to your desired finish.
Your bookcase that turns and reveals a hidden room is now complete.
