Why William Wordsworth called as Poet Laureate?

William Wordsworth was never appointed Poet Laureate.

The title of Poet Laureate was held by Robert Southey from 1813 until his death in 1843. Wordsworth was considered for the position after Southey's death, but he declined the offer.

It's possible you're thinking of Wordsworth's close friend and fellow Romantic poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, who was also offered the position of Poet Laureate in 1813 but declined.

While Wordsworth was a highly respected poet, he was known for his independent spirit and wasn't interested in the ceremonial duties associated with the position.
